'"Die Auswirkungen der Weltkonjunktur erreichen die Schwellenländer zeitverzögert", hatte Peter Westerheide (...) angekündigt. ***Indien dürften die globalen Auswüchse der Wirtschaftskrise ___mitunter___ aufgrund von Mio. im Ausland beschäftigten Arbeitnehmern nun doppelt hart treffen***. Während die Arbeiter bisher jährlich über 20 Mrd. Dollar nach Indien schickten, steigt die Arbeitslosigkeit nunmehr besonders im Nahen Osten. Dadurch knickt der Geldfluss aus dem Ausland ein, was sich negativ auf die indische Konjunktur durchschlägt.'

The standard translation of "mitunter" is "from time to time, occasionally, now and then", but I'm struggling to fit that into the context of being hit twice as hard. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. TIA.
