attic annex

Explanation:
The term "Anschluss" is one I am familiar with from my study of European history. In construction I am familiar with this term when we have opened and reconstructed a formerly wasted roof space (as in an attic above a garage) to make it accessible from another finished living space.

Example sentence(s):
  • He entered his small appartment above the garage; the attic annex served as a studio.

The RubberGard EPDM panels (typically 3.05 m to 6.10 m wide) are fully adhered directly to an acceptable substrate using Firestone Bonding Adhesive. Adjoining sheets are overlapped a minimum of 100 mm and the seams are spliced with Firestone QuickSeam Splice Tape. All flashings around roof perimeters and penetrations are installed in accordance with Firestone specifications (PDF).

The information provided within the Installation Guidelines may assist contractors to install the Firestone EPDM Systems in accordance with Firestone's specifications. It may also help contractors and designers to inspect the completed installation. The installation manual has been split up into different phases, which appear in a chronological order:

Roof flashings and terminations are one of the most overlooked aspects of the roof system – and one of the most important.
This is because leaks frequently develop in these areas, where the roof joins with walls and chimneys. To help prevent these leaks from occurring, corrosion-resistant metal flashing is typically applied. Metal flashing is effective, because when properly installed, it can help accommodate roof, chimney, wall, or structural movements due to settling, expansion, and contraction.
http://www.eliteroofingwindsor.com/solutions-flashing.html

Termination points are located around chimneys, vent pipes, valleys and vertical wall joints and this is where flashings can be seen. Flashings are metal pieces designed to prevent water infiltration by allowing two different materials to expand and contract between one another. Before they are installed, it is recommended that all points of termination be waterproofed.
Different types of flashings include:
Valley – Where two sloping angles of a roof meet, forming a valley.
Step – Around roof projections such as walls, dormers, curbs, and chimneys, and are installed between each stage of the roofing process.
Roof Edge / Drip Edge – Located at the edge of the roof, protecting the fascia, preventing against wood rotting and rodent entry.
Stack – Made to wrap around a pipe stack or roof curb.
Counter – Used to protect from weather exposure and also the top edge of base or step flashings on walls, curbs and other surfaces.
Wall – Typically used along the front side of a dormer wall for the same purposes as a counter flashing as described above.

Flashings: These small metal fixtures are critical in keeping water out of your attic. Flashings are fastened around any protrusions or penetrations in order to prevent water from seeping in around these areas, which are the weakest part of the roof.

parapet flashing

Explanation:
In case it refers to parapets rather than to flat roofing, I do add additional referenes:

How to make realistic parapet flashings
If you want to make that parapet on your building look a little more realistic, try modeling the flashings.
http://blog.cadimage.com/2012/08/how-to-make-realistic-parap...

Typical sizes for parapet wall flashing
• A & C = 100mm - 200mm (typical)
• B = to suit the application (outside of wall)
The "Installation Code of Roofing, HB39-1997; published by the Australian Standards" specifies a 3 degree minimum full to the top of the parapet capping. The fall is away from the front of the wall and is designed to divert water away from the visual side of the wall. Water running down the wall tends to create unsightly stains. The drip edge of the flashing is intended to get water to drip away from the wall.
The use of packing has been detailed in our CAD drawings to provide support for the top of larger parapet flashings. Without it, foot traffic and the weight of the flashing can result in the concaving of the top of the flashing; this leads to water and debris ponding on top of the flashing, which will reduce the life expectancy of the steel. The other concern with unsupported flashings relates to the silicone lap joins which can tear apart if the top of the flashing is damaged by foot traffic, allowing water to enter the building. Overall it is a good practice to include packing on larger parapet cappings.
The parapet flashings should be installed as per the relevant Australian standards and the Building Code of Australia and specialist advice should be sort that relates to your specific needs. As a general guide; the "Installation Code of Roofing, HB39-1997; published by the Australian Standards" specifies that parapet flashings be installed at intervals not exceeding 500mm with masonry anchors.

different flashings shown in PDF, including for parapets
http://www.mulehide.com/documentcategory/documents/detail-dr...

Parapets may not have been flashed originally – it was more common for the roof flashings to be finished behind the stucco on the back of parapets.
A parapet flashing, where it was done, consisting of a folded metal flashing, carried up the inside face of the parapet for a minimum height of 6” (150 mm), fixed to the parapet framing, and folded a minimum of 4” (100mm) down across the roofing. A capping flashing over the top of the parapet wall was folded down the exterior face of the wall for a minimum of 2” (50 mm) and down the interior face of the wall to overlap the upstand flashing (Figure 2).
