this is also in a building spec I'm translating, here's the sentence: "Die Außenfensterbänke sind zum Teil sehr verschmutzt. Dies rührt daher, dass der Handwerker den
Außenfensterbankschutz nicht ordnungemäß bis an die Fassade oder an das Fensterelement
heranführt."

I know that Außenfensterbank is outside sill in English, but I'm not sure about the Schutz-thing. Any suggestions? Any help will be appreciated!
