German term or phrase: auf etwas selektieren
Context:

"InstanceUID der Studie, auf die selektiert werden soll."

My problem here is with "auf die selektiert werden soll", what does "auf etwas selektieren" mean in this context? I'm quite sure there is no dialog or other form of user interface on which you can perform a selection here.

neutral  Richard Stephen: Your answer sounds good - might be right depending on context, but shouldn't it be singular - criterion?

-> Of course, it should be singular. Too early and no coffee at the time.

agree  Bernhard Sulzer: as in "allocated/assigned/to or "should be indexed in", and you probably mean criterion. :)

-> UID is usually a unique number identifying a record, so you would say that you are using this item as the index.
