German term or phrase: Arbeit/Wirtschaft
On an Abschlußzeugnis from a Realschule, one of the subjects reads:

Arbeit/Wirtschaft
(Arbeitslehre)

I am understanduing the Arbeit here to involve studies relating to the business world (industrial law, employment law, trade unions, etc. I am thinking along the right lines? If so, what would we say in UK English. Business studies doesn't cover it, and I am struggling to find the correct generic term. Any ideas?

Also Arbeitslehre usually refers to CDT (craft, design and tech.) doesn't it? Surely not here?

introduction to business
Explanation:
PMFJI (I'm an AmE), but I wouldn't reject "business studies" out of hand. I have read translations *about* this type of course that describe it has an "introduction to the world of work," (though that doesn't sound right for a school record). Pupils have to do junior business projects and report on topics such as how car insurance works (not "craft" subjects - or "art" and "shop" as we called it in high school).

Explanation:
You can tell I just made that up...

The "subject" covers a vast array of life skills, see outline from Realschule syllabus, below.

It's so broad that I don't know of an existing UK term which would cover it properly. ('Life Skills', for instance, doesn't do justice to the strong economic element, 'Citizenship' doesn't really bring out the work element, 'Careers' misses out the non-paid dimension of work, and so on).
