German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / Company type
German term or phrase: Betrieb(en) AG
Full sentence: "Die Arbeit für eine nachhaltige Zukunft ist allen Betrieben AG ein großes Anliegen."
Language pair: (Austrian) German > US English
Context: Sustainability in the plastics industry (specifically: plastic packaging) discussed in a company newsletter.

Should Betrieben AG simply be interpreted as "large/major companies/corporations"? Or might "manufacturing" be implied here? I've seen Ich-AG but not Betrieb AG (except in the names of specific firms - which is not the case here).

Thanks for any ideas.

Comes closest to my final wording of 'group businesses' (the word 'companies' appeared in the next sentence). Thanks very much!

Explanation:
I would simply do away with the AG bit, mainly because it has no relevance in English...

Or might "manufacturing" be implied here?

The context seems to refer to all companies, rather than any particular sector...

In other words, I think your own interpretation is perfectly adequate... :)

neutral  AllegroTrans: I see no "major" in the source text; seems to simply mean companies; and it's equally small companies as well as large ones that seek sustainability//AGs are not necessarily "major", some of them are practically unheard of

manufacturing

Explanation:
Hi Julia
You've put forward two alternatives here, so it is only right that your second choice is put up for scrutiny.
"Context: Sustainability in the plastics industry" This would indeed confirm manufacturing as a viable translation. It also gets around the issue of whether a company is major or minor. Why would smaller companies not also wish to sign up to this noble cause?
It will be interesting to see whether any peer voting comes in and which way it goes!

public companies

Explanation:
AG=Aktiengesellschaft translates as public co., i.e. being listed on a stock exchange.

But the source text is somewhat murky
