disagree  Gordon Matthews: Your explanation doesn't help me very much. Is "Erhaltung" the purpose or the method of selection? I don't think "preservation" or "conservation" quite fits the bill in this context.

-> Organic seed producers are precisely determined to do just that. Especially with indigenous strains.

agree  Wendy Streitparth: Perhaps 'selection/assortment for seed preservation'? https://www.greenbiz.com/article/seed-preservation-vital-sus...

Taphonomic bias

Explanation:
See links and Google the term. The following sentence is copied from Wikipedia, but it summarises the meaning: "Because of the very select processes that cause preservation, not all organisms have the same chance of being preserved. Any factor that affects the likelihood that an organism is preserved as a fossil is a potential source of bias."

neutral  Lancashireman: If you have been following Martina's recent enquiries, they are about the breeding of seeds. Nothing to do with fossilisation. This proposal actually merits a disagree, but that would be harsh. Your own disagree to Ramey's answer was unjustified.

disagree  Gordon Matthews: It is necessary to ask oneself whether the targeted readership of the text being translated would understand the proposed translation. In this case, I very much doubt it.
