Explanation:
In aviation, ad hoc flights are the ones who are requested to start in point A and end in point B.

Based in the tax haven of Jersey, Laker Airways has been formed as the vehicle to express Laker's ideas of cheap and easy air travel. It is a contract-hire and ad hoc airline, operating two Bristol Britannias from Gatwick to deal mainly with inclusive tour holidays. Setting his sights on greater things, Laker after his experience with BUA has no doubt that he needs to acquire three of the new BAC One-Eleven Series 300 airliners as the nucleus of a modern fleet of state-of-the-art, short-haul jet-transports.

charter airline

Explanation:
I know this is not a "new idea" but this is what charter airlines are! Bedarfsfluglinien. You *charter* an airline when you *need* one....

neutral  VdeMoor (X): the trouble with the word charter is that is linked to the tourism business. It is correct, but never tell a business pax that he 'll fly a charter aircraft. He 'll think about TUI, Thomson Fly, LTU, ... not Privatair or Netjets...

-> true... as business pax they are something special and they deserve a new name for them ;-)

neutral  VdeMoor (X): in aviation the expression "on demand" is used for a variety of concepts. It is a kind of fashion word for it. But it isn't clear what they exactly mean. There are a lot of business concepts with on demand service = they can eat whenever they like.
