La tristesse apporte de nombreux bénéfices. Les
larmes sont apaisantes, on pleure, on se mouche et on
est détendu. Beaucoup d’adolescents et de nombreux
poètes recherchent ce délicieux petit chagrin. La tristesse
avive le retour du bonheur, que l’on ressent intensément
après l’avoir perdu. La recherche de beaux mots transforme
un tourment en jolie poésie. Une brève séparation
provoque un rebond d’attachement ; « tu m’as manqué,
tu sais » rapproche les amants séparés que la routine
affective avait un peu engourdis. S’il n’y avait jamais
de moments malheureux, comment pourrait-on savoir
qu’on est heureux ? Si nous n’étions jamais fatigués,
comment pourrait-on savoir qu’on est en pleine forme ?
Pourquoi les musiques tristes font-elles venir des larmes
que nous aimons ? Pourquoi la nostalgie, douleur du
nid perdu, est-elle attendrissante ?

Dal contesto mi pare l'espressione adeguata (equivalente inglese :"back in love"), visto chela separazione in questione si riferisce in 1° luogo agli "amants séparés"

in questo caso direi comunque "ritorno" ma "di attaccamento/ comportamento di attaccamento".
Un punto saliente per differenziare i pattern di attaccamento è il momento della separazione dalla figura di riferimento e il modo in cui il soggetto reagisce all'idea del "ritorno" : p.e.
