Si tratta di una tipologia di orecchini che a quanto ho capito si portano dietro l'orecchio e siccome sono pendenti si vedono spuntare da dietro. In alcuni casi ho visto la frase anche in riferimento a orecchini che adornano il lobo dell'orecchio.

In ogni caso non sono ancora riuscita a trovare un termine italiano soddisfacende che sembri essere sufficientemente diffuso.
