Proteggere o custodire, sebbene sinonimi, mi sembrano leggermenti 'eccessivi' perché il senso, per come lo intendo io, è quello di continuare a conservare nel tempo, a dispetto della globalizzazione (= omogeneizzazione), un ideale di esclusività.

Secondo me il senso è quello chei giustamente individuato tu di "protexione/protegger". Io mi sto limitando a offirti un'alternativa, qualora non volessi usare "proteggere".
