French term or phrase: Manches voletantes
Hi,

I'm translating a description of items for a clothing website from French (France) into English (United Kingdom) and am not quite sure about a term. Please see below for full context:

"Robe courte en coton biologique, légère et agréable au porter, encolure V. Broderies ajourées sur les manches courtes voletantes et détails de broderies ajourées à l’encolure."

Could anyone help please?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

English translation:flutter sleeves
Explanation:
"Similar to the butterfly sleeve, flutter sleeves are like a shorter version. They have a similar shape to the top of their pattern design, but they aren’t as long and are usually cut a little wider. This is another elegant and petite style you could go with for warmer weather!"
https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/all-about-sleeves/

"A flutter sleeve is a short, loose-fitting sleeve that falls in soft folds over the upper arm."
https://www.threadsmagazine.com/2018/03/14/add-flutter-sleev...

"Flutter sleeves - This is a sleeve which looks like a circle when it is cut. This is a sleeve which has lots of flare."
https://sewguide.com/sleeve-types/#30_circle_sleeve_flutter_...

It all depends on the length of the sleeve that your source refers to. Bell sleeves/flared sleeves are longer in length, butterfly sleeves are above the elbow, and flutter sleeves are a bit shorter still. All three references have diagrams and photos, but the first reference (the mood fabrics one) shows the three sleeve types for comparison.

Flared

Explanation:
This is what my copy of Fashionpedia (https://fashionary.org/products/fashionpedia) calls them.
They are also known as bell sleeves, possibly more US usage, I think.
