French term or phrase: Prise d'égo
Il s'agit du fait que Dieu a donné un égo à l'âme pour qu'elle puisse s'incarner et avoir conscience d'elle-même. Comment traduire « prise » dans ce contexte ?

acquisition of ego
Explanation:
I would suggest this, since "prise" expresses the perspective of the subject. From God's perspective "infusion" might be a suitable word.

"Acquisition of ego" or "of ego identity" is an expression used in psychoanalytic writing, but we also find it, for example, in this text on Gnosis:

"The acquisition of ego by the human soul amounts to entitization of the soul, the human thought-form, through its interaction with the world. Thought-forms become entitized when they procure a rudimentary ego, intellect, mind, or personality."

agree  Christopher Crockett: "entitization"?? Is this word really necessary? I certainly didn't mean to imply that the word was your own creation, Charles --clearly you were just quoting an "expert" --and you have my Condolences for having to subject your head to suchlike muck.

-> There must be a better way, I agree, but to tell you the truth I've become so inured to this sort of word through translating curator-speak for contemporary art catalogues (I'm doing one just now) that I scarcely notice.

agree  MatthewLaSon: Anything on those lines is going to work, more or less. I do enjoy "acquisition" here. Have a great day.
