French term or phrase: tirage majeur
This is from a contract for a photography exhibit. This clause defines how the photographer will give a photograph as a gift to the host of the exhibit:

"Monsieur ABC consent le don irrévocable à la XYZ d’un tirage majeur sélectionné par ses soins.
Cette photographie, qui sera un nouveau tirage, sera choisie par le photographe parmi celles exposées.
La propriété de la photographie sera transférée à la XYZ à sa remise officielle au Président de la XYZ, le jour de l’inauguration de l’exposition."

I'm not clear on what this could mean: an enlargement?

an important/significant print
Explanation:
I think "print" rather than "printing" since this single photograph is a concrete entity rather than an abstraction which will be hanging on a wall.

Damned time lag! Apologies to jlsjr for restating the later statement....
I think the meaning of "majeur" is just that of a major part of his/her oeuvre, eg one which might be used as a book cover, on a poster, or particularly highlighted in reviews etc.

Explanation:
Tirage is a printing (you would probably find it in GDT)

I do think it is only 'major' as an 'important, notable' print from the exhibit.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I realise that "tirage" means "printing" or "print" or "printout". It's the "majeur" that's got me wondering here

Asker: Ah, that's a possibility: a significant print from the exhibit. Hmmm...

disagree  B D Finch: I believe that is "grand format" in French.//Significant is about artistic quality, there is plenty of large format junk around.

-> i agree. so you believe that the format is insignificant? therefore, it would be a significant or worthy print...
