PII: 0378-3758(95)00118-2 shape of a random sample in , and several related notions of multidimensional. extremes. ..... In Refs. 14 and 15, a heuristic approach is used after each deformation step to homogenize the distances between the points of the 3D surface, such that a near homothetic mapping (i.e. an isometric mapping up to a scaling factor) between the 3D surface and the plane can be obtained. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 31 mins (2008-06-17 13:21:39 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Screw made of biodegradable material for bone surgery purposes ... an elongate channel coaxial with respect to the longitudinal axis and ... by homothetic transformation about the trace line of the longitudinal axis. ... www.patentstorm.us/patents/5695497-claims.html - 25k - Cached - Similar pages Thermal printing device with fast closure - US Patent 6666604 A roller is integral with the frame such that its longitudinal axis is also ... superimposable up to a homothety Explanation: I am not sure what the problem is here. I admit that the word "homothety" has a somewhat bizarre and ungainly ring to it in English (the more correctly formed "homothecy" is even rarer), but this is a patent, for crying out loud, not a novel! In any case, anyone with a modicum of mathematical sophistication would be able to make sense of my suggestion. (I might add that the original author is using a terminological sledgehammer to crack a walnut, but that is not the translator's problem.) |
