Tech/Engineering - Patents / used in bomb calorimeter to measure heat

Later on, this is weighed:

1er essai
- Masse d'échantillon 0,1992 gramme
- Masse d'*****acide benzoïque étalon***** 0,4988 gramme
- Élévation de température 1,4390 °C

----

It's the étalon that is particularly confusing me. Does anybody know what this is?

Many thanks!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Ah! That makes a lot more sense now! Thanks so much for such a speedy response, so late on a Saturday night. Now for another (dumb?) question: can this standard be weighed?

agree  IP-Chemist: forget my comment, as it makes things more complicate, benzoic acid was chosen as international standard in bomb calorimetry for some reasons such as easy to purify
