I understand it to be that part of the fort that faces inland (as opposed to facing out to sea). Is there a term or must it be paraphrased each time? It comes up several times, for example:

Reste le front de terre constitué de deux bastions et la courtine.
Seul le front de terre constitué du donjon et de bastions est élevé.
Le fossé séparant le front de terre du reste de la presqu'île...
