Can "délester" here be "relieve"? I'm confused!

"Si la valeur de tarage choisie fait que le couple demandé au moteur est trop important, on déleste par les limiteurs de pression de sécurité 23, ou bien les roues W glissent (perte d’adhérence, patinage). I think the use of 'on' here justifies a passive construction in EN, and by using 'reduced', we can avoid needing to say how much ('some', etc.)

shed some load

It means that, if the torque required from the motor is too large, some of the load is shed, either through the pressure relief valve or by the fact that wheels lose traction.

neutral Tony M : For this to work, it would have to be 'shed some of the load' as in your explanation — but it sits less easily when talking about a mechanical load, as here.

Pressure in a system is RELIEVED with pressure-limiting valves. The 23 after limiters refers to bars of pressure.
