French term or phrase: opération d'échange de conditions
This is the title of an an investment document confirming certain terms and conditions relating to this transaction, as such it is quite important that it is translated correctly and accurately.

The full title is: "Confirmation dune opération d'échange de conditions liées à l'évolution d'un indice".

My current thoughts are that this 'opération d'échange de conditions' should be translated as "conditional variance swap" or more simply "conditional swap transaction". Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be very welcome.

The already long phrase of the source text does not indicate whether it is a rate swap or a variance swap. It could be either.

The previous question referred to by philgoddard was not explicitly about an index swap. This one is.

The reason the French term talks about 'échange de conditions' is that the underlying instruments are never swapped -- the parties settle up between them based on what happens to conditions in the markets for the two instruments.
