If you want something smoother, you will have to give up looking for a noun phrase and reword the whole sentence, which you haven't given. The fund custodian must do both: it must keep track of the assets of the fund in question, and it must maintain a register of all open positions in those assets. Be careful with the word "management": the assets in question are "under management" by the fund manager ("portfolio management company"), NOT by the custodian. The relevant article of the RG AMF is 323-4 (in Book III).
