Gend. Minerchen

Thanks for all the help everyone. I got in contact with another old handwriting translator, and after also thinking it was Minerchen, she was able to figure out it was "Mirarch-en" which is a word unique to Greece, meaning something like policeman. These documents had French, German, and Greek handwriting--quite a challenge!

I'm not sure about it being part of his name. In other parts of the document, it simply says "Gend. Mir. John Smith" (name changed, but there is already a first name and a last name). But it's good to know that it is not a common French officer position. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know if I figure it out!

seems the most likely, as Chakib suggests, with Minerchen (or similar) being the officer's name.

It's more likely that the "Gend." is from a town/city by the name of "Mi_e_chen"

Gend might be "gendarme".
