Science - Geography / geology
French term or phrase: BP Est / Ouest
Hi. I am doing a translation about melanoma and surveys which were carried out across France (EDIFICE Melanome). Under "Région UDA", there is a list of the different regions of France, as follows:

"Région parisienne, Nord, Est, BP Est, BP Ouest, Ouest, Sud Ouest, Sud Est, Méditerranée."

Geography is clearly not my strong point! Can anyone tell me what BP Est and BP Ouest mean?

Thanks so much. :)

Notes to answerer
Asker: I see, yes. Thanks very much, Anca!

Asker: I spent ages researching this on the internet last night with no luck! I thought the answer would be clearer in the morning so when I still couldn't find it I tried Proz. Always a last resort but very handy. :)

agree  writeaway: geography isn't my thing either but that's why the www is so handy. one simply has to look there. often takes less time than posting a Kudoz question but Paris Basin in English. one s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Basin_(geology)

Reference information:
Perhaps not the most obvious source to cross-reference in the cotnext of geology, but a boolean search with "BP" and "Région UDA" produced helpful indicators in less than a second, even with the CAF!

agree  writeaway: research skills are a vital part of being a translator. Asking on Kudoz is no substitute, not in real life anyway......
