Certainly the UK press use the adjective 'intelligent' in this kind of context, simply to mean that the viewer, should s/he choose to, can obtain mental stimulation from the show.

Should you be writing for a UK readership, and in case you didn't know, our Channel 4 bought the idea from France, called it "Countdown", and it's been on here since Channel 4 started (over 20 years). Just in case that info is useful at all.

neutral  Charlie Bavington: for one thing it seems a bit too much to describe ANY gameshow as intellectual. Secondly, in the UK at least, "intellectual" is practically a term of abuse, or at least, not necessarily a good or positive thing. Sorry, we're barbarians!!
