casino contender's game

Explanation:
Aux jeux de contre-partie les joueurs jouent contre le Casino, mais les mises gagnantes sont en général compensées par les mises perdantes c'est la " contre partie " statistique des paiements. Le black-jack, la boule et la roulette sont des jeux de contre-partie.

neutral  MatthewLaSon: Aren't these "banked card games"? I never heard of casino contender's game. I highly doubt that's the standard term. I got so confused by the definitions online. Thanks for your comment below.

fixed-odds games

Explanation:
Hello,

jeux de contrepartie = fixed-odds games (joués contre l'établissement [bookmaker])

In other words, " fixed-odds betting is a form of wagering against odds offered by a bookmaker, an individual, or on a bet exchange." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed-odds_gambling That's where the French word "contrepartie" (in exchange for) comes into to play.

This is in contrast to "parimutuel betting games" (paris mutuels), where Parimutuel betting (from the French language: pari mutuel, mutual betting) is a betting system in which all bets of a particular type are placed together in a pool; taxes and a house "take" or "vig" are removed, and payoff odds are calculated by sharing the pool among all placed bets."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parimutuel_betting

I hope this helps.

disagree  Shannon Summers: These are not at all necessarily fixed odds games - it is basically any game where the player bets against the house (vs. other players). This includes blackjack, roulette, etc. See http://www.senat.fr/rap/r01-223/r01-22333.html

-> I think they are "banked-card games". But some definitions in French online (not many) suggest these are "fixed-odd games" (which are on the house) as opposed to parimutuel betting. I am not sure. My confidance level should have been set at "3".

neutral  Speakering (X): i think you are giving us an accounting definition based on the long term outcome of the gaming, but i think it is simply playing against the casino.

-> Thanks! But, the definitions online in French are not all the same. Some do indeed suggest "fixed-odds games" (as opposed to parimutuel betting, which is not against the house). My confidance level should have been a "3".

agree  Speakering (X): yes, without the dash

-> Thanks! I realize there is no dash at all with this. There is, however, with "house-banked card games" (same thing) LOL With some words in English, there is debate on whether there should be a dash or not.
