Asker: My kids refer to this sort of pocket device as a "gameboy", but that is a proprietary name. "Mobile console game" may be correct, but sounds stiff and formal...??? Stumped.

Asker: Quite right, this is a "hand-held gaming device", but my concern is to put this term in a children's toy ad. I am leaning towards Bourth's solution, because it appears to be the more common term at the moment. "Device" is a word kids might be less likely to use.
