French term or phrase: note d'adaptation
Hi everyone,

I need help with translating "note d'adaptation" in English, I find "adaptation note" clumsy, but since I don't know if the doc has been written by the producer or the director, I can't use "director's/or/producer's note".

The context is the screenplay adaptation of a book in its first story development stage -- before the "traitements" and "dialogués".

Any ideas??

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Asker: Thank you Barbara, this is helpful - but I actually need a short, to-the-point title -- sorry I should have specified :)

Asker: ... and thanks also to Nikki !!

neutral  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: I would read this to mean that the note simply describes the fact that the piece has been adapted. I would not take this to provide any information about the adaptation itself, something which I do read into the French.

Explanation:
I guess you would need to find out if this should be plural or singular, but "(s)" may work at the end of the line.

eg.

"A note from the adaptor:
In the spring of last year, Jen told me about a 1927 play she found. She’d been trying to get the rights to Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal and since they weren’t available, she ...."

"A note from the Adaptor:
“Pinocchio is at first glance a sprawling adventure, with magical creatures and journeys into wonderful and strange situations– and yet at its core what makes this story endure is the way it explorers the love of family, and the challenges and many pitfalls we encounter when we are growing up. Pinocchio is great for kids– but really it is for adults who remember how hard it was to grow up, or wonder if they ever really did.” – Tyler Beattie"

I think this sounds the most elegant in English. Can you ascertain how many adaptors there are?
