I am really struggling here to find out the meaning of this term. It's in a Powerpoint presentation about the assembly of all the components of a car door - windows, handles, locks and so on. The part I'm translating right now is about the channel which fits around the door frame, and specifically a recessed door frame. The Powerpoint slide in question is entitled "La coulisse sur cadre encastré". One of the disadvantages of this solution is given as:

En théorie, positionnement et esthétique assurés.
En pratique, pour améliorer
Esthétique : Ficelle (ex XX) -> toléré
Positionnement : Lissette (ex XX) -> toléré si pas d’autres solutions.

Thanks for your answer, James. I did get a message back from the client. He said it was a "smoother" or smoothing tool - which would kind of fit in with the kind of tool you found in your references.
