aanligbed Explanation: "Meestal stonden in de eetkamer drie aanligbedden in een U-vorm opgesteld. Deze opstelling werd triclinium genoemd, evenals de eetkamer zelf. Een aanligbed is een breed bed waar drie of vier mensen naast elkaar op konden liggen. De gasten lagen op hun linkerzij en ondersteunden hun hoofd met hun linkerarm. De rechterarm was vrij voor het pakken van eten en drinken. Naast de bedden werden kleine tafeltjes neergezet waarop het eten door slaven in hapklare brokken opgediend werd."
