safety securing person/man Explanation: In Finnish 'varmistus' is used in two meanings: 1) backup, ensure; 2) securing safety. In this case 'varmistusmies' is evidently securing safety of the operation (or should have been). Actually, I find 'varmistusmies' a little bit inaccurate in this context. I would have used 'varomies' instead, but it seems that only in army parlance (I have served there) these concepts are kept apart.
