The LATVIAN name is DaugAva, http://www.bartleby.com/65/dv/DvinaW.html
BUT in the Britannica online it says
http://www.britannica.com/ebi/article?tocId=9276727
\"The capital of Latvia, Riga stands at the southern end of the Gulf of Riga, an arm of the Baltic Sea. The city grew up on both sides of the mouth of the Western Dvina (Daugava) River.\"
So the English name is: the Western Dvina River! 963 hits on Google.

disagree Rogier Blokland (X) : Daugava River

agree Heikki Särkkä : There are more hits on Daugava River. There is a universal tendency to increasingly use domestic names for smaller places.
