rocker/sill panels Explanation: 'helmapalkki' is the hollow girder under the car doors, formed by inner and outer rocker (am. sill) panels, as in this picture: http://www.show-cars.com/images/RockerPanelLined.jpg In principle, it could be sth. like 'rocker/sill hollow girder' in English, but because the term seems not to be in use, name it just 'rocker/sill panels'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2009-08-22 15:15:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 'helmapelti' (rocker/sill panel) is in practice used as a synonym for 'helmapalkki'. Additionally, there is a term 'kynnyspalkki' that is even more exact synonym of 'helmapalkki'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2009-08-22 15:31:42 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- O yes, there is the term 'kynnyskotelo' that is more common than 'helmapalkki' or 'kynnyspalkki', but I couldn't find an English equivalent for it, either. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2009-08-22 16:29:35 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- It appears that you askes also about 'kynnyskotelo'. Spencer Allman's answer 'body sill' for it is ok for this 'helmapalkki', too. |
