Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: آواز ابوعطا
Greetings,

Please see:
http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/ابوعطا

I'm particularly interested in the sense of the word آواز here. Since Persian musical terms are not readily understood in the west, if possible please give an English equivalent: scale, melody etc.

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

Abu Atta mode
Explanation:
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_traditional_music for a much more complete explanation..."avaz" is actually a subset of some "dastgahs" and it also form of rhythmic-free singing.

I thinke mode is too general to be cosidered as AVAZ however VOCAL MELODY creates a more precise sense of avaz in iranian classical music
