Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: شتر
Greetings,

According to the one-volume Āryānpur progressive Persian-English dictionary, there is a word شتر meaning ‘slice’ (e.g. of watermelon etc.), synonymous with قاچ.

Is this right? I thought I should check it. By the way, how is it pronounced? Presumably not like the word for ‘camel’.

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

Reference information:
This word شَتَر is Arabic and means to cut, or cut, and is differentiated from شُتُر in Farsi. By passage of time, people preferred to make it Farsi and pronounce شُتُر which is a known animal and irrelevant to what people mean; unaware of the origin of the word.
