neutral  B D Finch: I'd agree, except that "journal" isn't a verb.//It seems now to be used as a verb in the US, but I don't think that usage is accepted in the UK.
14 mins
-> It is becoming now more and more popular as a verb, at least where I live. Good to know.

neutral  writeaway: Popular doesn't make it right or usable in supposedly professional writing. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/to-journal-is-now-a-ver... /millions say I seen, we done. So that's ok too?

-> This is a little different kettle of fish. Journal is used extensively as a verb even by educated professionals. A quick Google search will yield thousands of hits. My comment, by the way, is a casual explanation of the term at hand.

agree  Yvonne Gallagher: I really don't like journal as a verb but it is accepted by Oxford (not in Collins) and elsewhere and you were first with this.

  -> Thank you, Gallagy.

agree  Björn Vrooman: Verbification really isn't a new phenomenon: http://www.courierpress.com/story/life/wellness/2017/01/22/s... Oh, and there's MS: https://templates.office.com/en-us/Diary-pages-Bubbles-desig...

agree  Robert Forstag: “Journal” is acceptable, and in any event, Dariusz had only used it *to explain the meaning of the posted term*. He is not making a case for it to be used *in writing* in preference to all other alternatives.

not sure but that's the way I'd read it.

I would imagine that, while preparing the book, the author kept a journal to record his observations (animals seen, where, when, alone or not, season, weather, size etc. etc.) and these are included in the book to make it more interesting and more immediate for the reader (who may be inspired to make their own notes)

I think if the pages were intended for the reader's notes it would just be "blank" pages. But I think you should really check with the client to be sure

agree  Sheila Wilson: I would imagine it to be a combination of what you can expect to happen and space for the reader to add what actually happened
10 mins
-> Thanks Sheila but it turns out they are 30 pages left for the reader to make observations

neutral  B D Finch: Rather than guessing, it's better to find the book itself, which is easily googled using the extract provided by the Asker. Of course, the Asker could have done that himself.
22 mins
-> yes, it's clear from the extra context/reviews but it should be journal pages or safari diary pages rather than "diary pages" which looks weird.

agree  Mark Nathan: journal pages// Or they'll just post straight to social media
44 mins
-> Thanks Mark. It depends what sort of notes the user makes; those with more literary inclinations will make journal entries, for others the date and "saw a gorilla today" will be the limit.
