There's a difference between a back road and a lane, though some roads may be both. While a back road is generally narrow, it might not be, but a lane always is. I think that back roads also go somewhere, while lanes might or might not. I live on a lane, which I don't think can be called a back road, because it doesn't lead anywhere as, though it does join two other roads, it has a bend at the top that's too sharp to drive a car round, so can't be used as a back double except by pedestrians. |
