Used as in USA Explanation: Maybe I should leave this to women to answer, but I have never heard of slip being used for anything other than the undergarment worn under a dress as described by Melanie. Nor have I ever seen "panty" in the singular. |

slip is a form of petticoat Explanation: A slip is a short form of a petticoat A bit different to panties -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 24 mins (2008-10-26 09:50:24 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A Spencer is a garment which is generally made of cotton or a warmer material, worm mainly during winter. A slip or half-slip is worn mainly to prevent cloths rubbing, scratching or clinging and for a feel good feeling. A petticoat is generally worn under a see through dress or a dress made of a finer material, it is also used to cover up if there is a clothing malfunction. IMO this is how I have always known them. My ex wife used to dress very classy and always wore them. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2008-10-26 11:23:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A UK slip http://www.twenga.co.uk/dir-Fashion,Women-s-skirts-and-dress... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2008-10-26 11:27:00 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- we all Know Petticoat Junction in England.....
