Rahben Explanation: I believe this is the name of a manufacturer of a certain type of machine ... as a proper noun it stays the same. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 33 mins (2006-11-07 16:56:01 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- this site http://www.shimaseiki.co.jp/product_knite/sfe.html tells us: These compact and space-saving single rahben machines specialize in such applications as plain, rib and tubular knits in panels as well as accessory parts such as collars, plackets and pockets. rahben stitch Explanation: It is a type of rib stitch in machine knitting. When they write about "rahben knitting machine" it doesn't mean the name of a manufacturer, but that the machine is capabel of knitting this type of stitch. That's why it is not written with a capital R. The Bulky Singer SR-150 Ribbing Attachment comes with operation manual and all accessories. Machine is in excellent condition and working condition. Some of the stitches you can do are: K1 P1 Rib, Double Rib, K2 P2 Rib, Wide Rib, Tubular Knitting, Pin Tuck, English Rib, Swung English Rib, Variation Swing 1, 2 & 3, Herringbone Swing, Tuck Rib 1 & 2, Rahben, Slip Rib and Drive Rib. cgi.ebay.ca/BULKY-SINGER-PUNCHCARD-KNITTING-MACHINE-W-RIBBER-YARN_W0QQitemZ8253440557QQcategoryZ28146QQcm Remarks: *) SLEEVE KNITTING*) RAHBEN KNITTING*) STITCH INCREASING... www.texnett.com/.../vanity/india/sample/product_dispusr.pl?... Unfortunately they don't ellaborate on how the stitch is formed. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2006-11-07 19:58:48 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Answer to Dave's question: Not really, knitting can be analysed and reproduced. It is a combination of manoeuvres with the standard stitches which create a particular pattern, still called a "stitch", even when it is made up of several stitches and rows. It can be reproduced by hand-knitting as well, but some of the machine stitches are just too impractical for hand knitting, so they remain in the domain of machine stitches. |
