Tech/Engineering - Physics / Experiment involving Fluid
English term or phrase: CLOSE FIT
The particular geometry required for the boat used in our apparatus makes it inherently unstable in three dimensions unless it just fitted between the glass sheets. However, a CLOSE FIT increases the influence of surface tension and drag. We eliminated this problem by inclining the boat slightly so that the sides of the boat were not parallel to the glass sheets, thereby reducing the area of the glass in contact with the boat. Inclining the boat at the commencement of the experiment did not eliminate the drag between the glass and the boat when it moved.

very close (touching)
Explanation:
Although i find it quite surprising, they seem to be saying that the boat had to be actuall held between the glass in order to support it... so presumably actually touching it, or very close indeed.
