flare stack Explanation: http://je.pl/zzd6 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 39 mins (2009-05-02 22:16:18 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I mean it must be an error of some kind - "flare sail" doesn't make much sense in this context (unless it's a poetic description of the flare). |

chimney top Flare sail Explanation: I am not sure, but I believe a flare sail is an flare flute / arrestor / direction director located on a Flare stack to capture / direct any flares from the flare sack or chimney. It is used to direct the smoke away from the boat / home / building with the direction of the wind and has a roosters tail on it which is where the term sail comes from. Without this flair sail, the wind can blow the smoke and embers back down the chimney and into the home etc. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2009-05-03 00:56:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A flue gas stack is a type of chimney, a vertical pipe, ... industrial chimneys from the 1860s, with over-sailing caps and patterned brickwork. ... bottom and the top of the flue gas stack) that is created by the draft: . http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.thecowlhou... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2009-05-03 01:04:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5e/Common_... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 6 days (2009-05-09 10:19:51 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Umm I just took a photo today of a chimney sail.
