English term or phrase: here and now, there and then
"Television, for better or worse, is a part of who we are; we use it to tell stories of ourselves, and others. We use television to organize the everyday, the here and now, the there and then."

What is the difference between these two? As I understand it 'here and now' means present moment; there and then - at that precise time. Isn't it the same, more or less?

The there and then is referring to another time (and most likely another place.) Television brings it all together, mixing the past and the present, replaying it, mixing it up again "Everything happens at once in the post-industrial (for example, digital) world."
