English translation: set a term in its proper rank in the taxonomy

English term or phrase: set a term in its proper [hierarchy]
In translation studies we consider our words as to how they related to their most correct interpretation within a system which sets words within a certain hierarchy. That is, the most broad term and its declension to a more specific term. Example: furniture, seating, chair, reclining chair, EZ boy. I have forgotten what we call this classification structure. There is a formal term for such a linguistic order -- not hierarchy. What the heck is it?

set a term in its proper position in the hierarchical classification

A taxonomy is a hierarchical structure of units in terms if class inclusion such that superordinate units in the hierarchy include, or subsume, all items in subordinate units. Taxonomies are typically represented as having tree structures.

Taxonomies display degree of specificity such that the superordinate units are very schematic or abstract and the subordinate units are very specific.

In cognitive linguistics taxonomies are hierarchies of concepts and thus types of folk taxonomies. Taxonomy is, along with radial structure, a primary organising principle in prototype categories.
