excision repair cross-complementing 1 (ercc1) gene --------------------------------------------------------------- Explanation: The excision repair cross-complementing 1 (ERCC1) gene is coding for a nucleotide excision repair protein involved in the repair of radiation- and chemotherapy-induced DNA damage. Overexpression of the excision repair cross-complementing 1 (ERCC1) gene, is crucial in the repair of cisplatin (CDDP)-DNA adducts, however, it is reported to negatively influence the effectiveness of CDDP-based therapy for gastric and ovarian cancers. Recent evidence indicates that Gemcitabine (Gem) may modulate ERCC1 nucleotide excision repair activity, and down-regulation of DNA repair activity by ERCC1 antisense RNA reportedly inhibits synergism of CDDP/Gem. (In patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), low ERCC1 expression correlates with prolonged survival after cisplatin plus gemcitabine chemotherapy. ) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs 59 mins (2004-07-23 17:43:45 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/ cgi/content/full/10/11/3794 http://www.asco.org/ac/1,1003,_12-002636-00_ 18-0016-00_19-00540,00.asp http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve& db=PubMed&list_uids=10741696&dopt=Abstractb - Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=gene&cmd=Re... www.pcabc.upmc.edu/biomarkers/ Proposed_BioMarkers_Table.doc |
