step 3 concept (pre-production) and steps 4-6 Production

Explanation:
Hi I wouldn't call it main stage and story stage as you can read below but for these two concepts, I understand you are referring to step 3 and step 6 so pre-production and steps 4-5 before step 6 which is production. The story would be developed in these two stages before the actual game is created with coding. Prior to that there usually is a prototype. Hope this helps!

neutral  Tony M: I don't believe this is anything to do with steps in the process of creating a game, but more to do with the (scenic) stage in which the action takes place.

disagree  George Trubnikov: The terms are definitely associated with the gameplay. In the Tower of Saviors game I found these descriptions: For the main stages prior to the New Era, see Era of Enoch. For the story mode stages prior to the New Era, see The Traveler's Memories.

Explanation:
In the context of gaming, the terms "main stage" and "story stage" refer to different aspects of a game's progression or structure. While both terms are commonly used in the gaming community, their specific meanings can vary depending on the genre and design of the game.

The main stage, also known as the gameplay stage or level, represents the core gameplay experience in a game. It typically refers to the primary sections or levels that players must complete in order to progress through the game. These stages are often designed to present challenges, obstacles, and puzzles that players need to overcome using their skills, strategy, or problem-solving abilities. The main stage is where most of the action and gameplay mechanics take place, such as combat encounters, platforming sequences, or puzzle-solving tasks.

On the other hand, the story stage refers to the narrative-driven aspects of a game. It encompasses the sections or sequences that focus on advancing the game's storyline or plot. In story-driven games, these stages are crucial for delivering the game's narrative and character development. They often involve cutscenes, dialogue exchanges between characters, and scripted events that reveal more about the game's world and its inhabitants. The story stage is where players learn more about the game's lore, unravel mysteries, and become emotionally invested in the narrative.

It is important to note that not all games have distinct main stages and story stages. Some games seamlessly integrate gameplay and storytelling throughout their entire experience. In these cases, there may not be a clear separation between main stages and story stages, as both elements are intertwined.

The difference between main stages and story stages lies primarily in their focus and purpose within a game. Main stages prioritize gameplay mechanics and challenges, aiming to provide engaging and interactive experiences for players. They often require players to demonstrate their skills and mastery of game mechanics to progress further.

On the other hand, story stages prioritize narrative development and immersion. Their primary goal is to engage players emotionally and intellectually by presenting a compelling story, memorable characters, and thought-provoking themes. Story stages may involve less gameplay and more passive storytelling elements, allowing players to experience the game's narrative in a more cinematic or immersive manner.

In summary, the main stage in gaming refers to the core gameplay sections or levels that players must complete to progress, while the story stage focuses on advancing the game's narrative and character development. The main stage emphasizes gameplay mechanics and challenges, while the story stage prioritizes storytelling and immersion.
