English term or phrase: make signs for a living
- Part two. According to my sources, the winner of the building competition's gonna get to meet him!
- Soooo, does this “source” of yours make signs for a living?
- Yeah. My source, uhhh, doesn't... uh... exist. You guys are my only friends. It's good news all around.

These are some spript lines from a video game.
Unfortunately, I practically don't have any additional context, so I can't really get what the phrase is supposed to mean here. Any ideas?

sarcastic response, see expl.
Explanation:
I have a hunch that as they were talking about some sources predicting as it were what's gonna happen to the winner of the competition, the reply is sarcastic, meaning that someone can foretell such a thing only if he makes signs as making sings would mean he knew about directions and other "actions" associated with signs, he would probably have to put the sings up as well. He could also imply that there must be a sign up somewhere for somebody to be able to foretell such an outcome, so the source would know about it if he'd put it up. But as I've said, it's only a hunch.

practice divination for a living

Explanation:
Divination is the 'art' of foretelling the future by reading omens and signs. The signs are either natural (animal behaviour, weather patterns, the way certain birds flock etc) or generated for the purpose (the pattern of tea leaves, the pattern in which certain thrown objects fall etc).

I guess 'making signs' is a reference to divination by interpreting a pattern produced by the diviner.
