English term or phrase: across the load
laser sensors for safety applications

Noise caused by switching of inductive loads should be addressed by installing proper transient suppression across the load

I don't understand where this suppression should be installed - could you rephrase the sentence using a preposition different from "across"?
- is the suppression ON the load, before the load? between the load and the device (in this case I thinks it is the interlock switch controller)

it's quite urgent,
thanks!
