washers/spacers Explanation: I think shims are metal or plastic washers, or more specifically in this case, spacers. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 25 mins (2005-08-25 06:19:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Actually, it's usually a paper spacer found underneath the lens mount. There's a picture and an explanation here: http://jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page433.htm |

See explanation below... Explanation: Elena, in general, a 'shim' is a piece of usually quite thin metal sheet used as a spacer to accurately adjust the position of something. Most often, shims come in specific, calibrated thicknesses. Here, you have some special washers that fit behind the lens, in order to adjust its position by a specific distance. You can see that they are quite thin, and pretty fragile! It would NOT be correct to call them 'extensions', but 'spacing washers' would give the idea, though it is also important to convey the idea that these are of a specific, calibrated thickness, and not just any old washers! I'm sure there must be a word for 'shim' in Italian! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs 59 mins (2005-08-25 11:52:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Perhaps 'spacing washer made out of shim material' would enable you to find a suitable translation in Italian |
