English term or phrase: purpose of modifications to the seatbelt
Hello everyone,

"OK, Nic, Austin’s just modifying one of the seatbelt brackets to just clear one of the seatbelt mounting eyes. What we’ve done, we’ve left them especially long because we’re gonna have to put a brace on because they’re quite a bit taller than standard ones."

The problem for me here is that the documentary only show 2 people talking and a general view of the car, i.e. it's not possible to see what is being done to the seatbelt and the seatbelt bracket.

Is it possible to understand from the text above what was the purpose of those modifications to the seatbelt bracket and the seatbelt mounting eye? Although I understand all words separately, the text, as a whole, makes no sense to me. The only thing I more or less understand is that they wanted one of the seatbelt brackets to go into/through on of the seatbelt mounting eyes.

The general modifications are described here:

"A few adaptations have been made to the car in order to help me when driving. The first thing was to have the accelerator pedal pushed back to floor and the brake pedal widened so that I could push down rather that reach away, which is harder for me. I also had the seat raised by 100mm and a hand clutch mounted to the rear of the steering wheel so I didn’t have to use another pedal."

Thank you.

Selected answer:Nic's position in seat is higher...
Explanation:
Not sure but as I understand it...

Nic's sitting position is going to be higher (so he can push DOWN rather than away on the brake pedal) and the seat belt bracket "taller" (higher position in the car) for that reason.

I want to be high, (because normally, when you hit a brake pedal,

117
00:06:50,040 --> 00:06:54,120
or any pedal, you have to push away from yourself.)

"Just clear one of the seatbelt mounting eyes" means changing the position so as to be slightly clear or away from (not to obstruct or be in the way of) the mounting bracket.
