premixer used here simply as a synonym of "premix" Explanation: The proper term is "premix", and it is much more common, as well as more correct, to refer to premix pellets. I am sure that "premixer pellets" in your source means exactly the same thing. Other examples of this phrase, "premixer pellets", can be found on the Internet, but it is much less common than "premix pellets", and really the latter is correct. "Premixer" properly means either a company that manufacturers premixes, or, as you say, a machine in which they are made. "A premix is a mixture of vitamins, trace minerals, medicaments, feed supplements and diluents. It is a value added solution for feeds with sustainable safety and quality." http://en.engormix.com/MA-feed-machinery/manufacturing/artic... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 41 mins (2012-11-16 10:24:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Premix pellets" are pellets consisting of a premix, as defined above. "Premixer pellets" might seem to imply that pellets designed to be mixed with the feed (in the same way as "mixers" are non-alcoholic drinks, such as tonic water, designed to be mixed with a spirit such as gin); but I don't think this is so. In your source, and the few others where "premixer" is used like this, there is nothing to indicate that it has any meaning different from "premix". |
