Idea 14:31 Jun 26, 2009
Although Irshad Sahib's translation seems to be the best we can do, I don't think there is a good enough word in Urdu to accurately describe the concrete nature of "idea" as often used in English. The Urdu counterparts of "idea" sound and feel more like "thoughts," whereas "idea" has a more concrete feel to it, probably by its extensive use as something related to products and services that actually come into existence. For instance, we don’t say “I have three product thoughts for market research.” Although the word “concept” may apply here, but it has a more sophisticated feel and can be described aptly by the word "نظریہ". I wish there was a better word for the common use of the word "idea" though. |
