biociʹder (av bio- och latin -ciʹda ’-dödare’, av caeʹdo ’döda’), ämnen som dödar liv, till exempel antibiotika eller bekämpningsmedel.

Biocider som används inom jord- och skogsbruk och i trädgårdsodlingen är till exempel herbicider, fungicider och insekticider (se vidare växtskyddsmedel). Exempel på andra biocider är desinfektionsmedel, konserveringsmedel, träskyddsmedel, skyddsmedel mot mikrober, alger och musslor i kyl- och processvattensystem, slembekämpningsmedel samt medel som används för att bekämpa skadedjur (till exempel råttor, insekter och mollusker). Vidare finns medel mot påväxt och avlagring av organismer på fartyg, fiskeutrustning och andra konstruktioner som används i vatten (så kallade antifoulingprodukter) samt balsamerings- och konserveringsvätskor
